St. John’s Point Lightkeeper’s Cottages

Killough, Northern Ireland

Historic Building Restoration

Irish Landmark Trust/Commissioner of Irish Lights

Build Only

This was a wonderful restoration scheme – designed to reinvigorate the lighthouse and lightkeepers cottages, providing a unique and exciting visitor experience.

You can’t miss St John’s Point Lighthouse, with its strikingly tall tower marked with vibrant bands of yellow and black. We carried out sympathetic repairs to this historic landmark designed by George Halpin Senior and originally constructed in 1844, to bring it back to its original glory.

We also upgraded the two lightkeeper’s cottages at the lighthouse site (called Ketch & Sloop), painstakingly restoring the existing windows and façade, internally remodelling and redecorating to provide self-catering accommodation.

You can now live the life of a lightkeeper in this remote and beautiful spot – enjoying very comfortable and characterful self-catering accommodation in either of the two lightkeeper’s cottages…. visit ‘great lighthouses of Ireland’ website for further details!
