Blackhead Lighthouse

Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland

Historic Building Restoration

Irish Landmark Trust/Commissioner of Irish Lights

Build Only

Connolly & Fee has an impressive portfolio of Lighthouse restoration schemes – this third showcase project comprised restoration works to Blackhead Lighthouse and associated accommodation, which is situated on whitehead cliff edge overlooking Belfast Lough.

The buildings are steeped in history and we were committed to preserving and enhancing them through our works.

We used staff and supply chain partners with specialist expertise in this type of work to restore the lighthouse fabric and the three lightkeepers’ houses – to create comfortable, characterful accommodation, with antique furniture and seafaring curio true to its maritime past.

Blackhead Lighthouse was built in 1902 and has guided many famous vessels during Belfast’s golden age of shipping including the ill-fated Titanic. It and the beautifully curated houses are now open to visitors and available for overnight stays.
